Marquise and Baguette Diamond Engagement Ring

The Marquise.......The history of the Marquise Diamond is as interesting as it is romantic. Legend has it that Louis XV encountered a beautiful woman during a masked ball at Versailles. He was so taken by her that he made her his chief mistress within his court as the Marquise de Pompadour/ Madame de Pompadour). He declared that her  lips were the most perfect he had ever seen. When the king commissioned a royal jeweler to create a design and shape of diamond that looked most like her lips, the Marquise-cut was born!
